FAQ'S
-
What Can I Expect to Learn at the Forge? At the Forge, you ofcourse learn the technical skills of the craft, and more importantly discover what works for you as a process and learn the fundamental concepts that build your foundation. You will learn the most important style of filmmaking - Guerrilla Filmmaking, a style of independent filmmaking that involves shooting quickly in a variety of locations without a set and using whatever is available at your disposal. You will learn if you're are just a person passionate about a craft or really have what it takes to create a career in it. You will also learn intangible skills like interacting with your team and building a circle of filmmakers you can collaborate with. And these are learnings that set the Forge apart from any other workshop out there.

What is the structure of the Online classes?Note: This doesn't apply to the Forge Writing Residency. Before joining us at the Forge offline, we host an online segment which has 3 objectives: 1. Orientation To help you understand what to expect from the program, the schedule and meet your batchmates 2. Theoretical Learning We love practical experiential learning but theory is important too, so we teach you theory in cinematography, Direction and Screenwriting to strengthen your foundation. 3. One to One Script Mentorship A core part of the Forge online segment is writing your short film script. We help you convert your idea into a story and into a screenplay that you will produce at the Forge. This is going to be a 3-4 minute short film which is a 3-4 pages long script. Our writing and creative production mentors will help you through one to one mentorship sessions to finish your script! Note: These sessions will be conducted post working hours before the start of the 7 day offline segment to make sure we don’t disturb your other commitments.

An average shortfilm of this duration, for a beginner takes about 4-5 hours to shoot, if you have done your pre production properly. And at the Forge we have 4 slots of 6 hours each over a period of 2 days, dedicated for production. In each slot 6 directors will create their shortfilm with their cast and crew, usually comprising of 3 others who will be their DOP and Actors.
